Hundreds displaced in South Africa floods

The country’s coastal city of Durban capital of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province is yet to recover from a deadly flood, which claimed the lives of at least 435 and left 54 people missing.
No casualties have so far been reported in the latest case, but there has been widespread destruction, mainly in the metropolitan area of Durban.
On May 20, 2022, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) placed the KwaZulu-Natal province on red alert for heavy rains and flooding. The heaviest rain fell on May 21, 2022.
A survey by the South african Department of Trade, Industry and Competition has revealed that at least 826 companies were affected by the deluge with 31,220 jobs affected as a result of the flooding.
